When in 1935 Laura Riding (editor) and Robert Graves (Associate Editor) launched Epilogue, it was this hard-backed annual publication, rather than the "Twice a Year" that had been originally planned. Boards sunned, ownership stamp, on both front free endsheets, of the New Directions publisher James Laughlin, IV. ![]() ![]() The woman struggles with the bad boy’s past while the bad boy struggles with his feelings for the beautiful lady. The chemistry is undeniable, and much heat ensues. Although Brown is an excellent and almost effortless writer, over the years her plots have devolved into paint-by-numbers efforts: a hunky, distant bad boy ends up in reluctant contact with a beautiful-beyond-belief woman in peril. ![]() And everyone, including FBI agents Wiley and Hickam, who are hot on Josh's trail, believes that his sister, Jordie, holds the key. Now, Shaw’s in a race to find Josh-an escaped federal witness-before the FBI or Panella can beat him to it. Panella is at the top of law enforcement’s fugitive list after he swindled millions out of their nest eggs, like a more modest Bernie Madoff. Seems Jordie’s brother, Josh, worked for a famous criminal named Billy Panella. The hit man in question, Shaw Kinnard, shoots his partner, fellow killer for hire Mickey Bolden, before Bolden has a chance to kill Jordie, then abducts her and drives around and finally holes up with her still a hostage. ![]() One minute, the gorgeous woman sits nursing a drink in a run-down Louisiana bar, and the next, she’s been kidnapped by a murderous hit man. A rock-jawed bad guy and a sexy entrepreneur feel the mutual heat in Brown’s latest story of a damsel in distress and her tarnished knight. ![]() ![]() ![]() As a killer hurricane relentlessly bears down on them, a strange case takes on even darker, more sinister shades-with hints of radical experimentation, horrifying surgeries, and lethal countermoves made in the cause of a covert shadow war. Multiple murderess Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on this remote and barren island, despite having been kept in a locked cell under constant surveillance. ![]() Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, have come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient. The New York Times calls Shutter Island, "Startlingly original." The Washington Post raves, "Brilliantly conceived and executed." A masterwork of suspense and surprise from the author of Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone, Shutter Island carries the reader into a nightmare world of madness, mind control, and CIA Cold War paranoia and is unlike anything you've ever read before. The basis for the blockbuster motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Shutter Island by New York Times bestselling author Dennis Lehane is a gripping and atmospheric psychological thriller where nothing is quite what it seems. ![]() ![]() ![]()

In practical terms, C2C requires products to be designed in such a way to ensure that all materials can be classified into one of two cyclical systems: Biological cycle This methodology was developed by professor Michael Braungart and William McDonough in 2001 and it has been used as inspiration in products, buildings and production systems. C2C methodology builds on the concept that “waste = food”, meaning that what is considered waste can become food in a new product cycle. Alternatively, there needs to be a separation system in place that can be applied after the item is discarded. In order for the C2C system to be sustainable, all materials in products need to be kept clean and should not be mixed. It is about making community and product development function in the same way as a healthy ecological system where all resources are used effectively, and in a cyclical way (as opposed to the current linear system that can be better described as a Cradle to Grave system). ![]() Cradle to Cradle (C2C) is about seeing garbage as an eternal resource and doing the right thing from the beginning. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The steampunk aspect of this book was severely downplayed by the jacket summary - steampunk technology is sprinkled throughout the world in various ways and is central to creating the atmosphere of the setting. Our heroine is dark, driven by revenge far more than altruism, and downright relatable, which is interesting given how different her aristocratic problems are from the present day. That last bit is what made me buy the book, having absolutely adored the Clockwork Angel series by Cassandra Clare, which could be boiled down to a similar premise but of course brought so much more to the table. My first impression was that this would be another story in the long line of “she’s special, she’s the chosen one, watch her save the world” but in Victorian times and with a faerie twist. In my personal opinion, the jacket description, while not at all untrue, did not convey a true sense of this book. The jacket description had intrigued me, which is why it was on the shelf in the first place, but it hadn’t captured me yet. I had just finished Firstlife and was awaiting my Amazon shipment of the sequel when I took the plunge. I’ll admit it, this book sat on my shelf for quite a while before I finally picked it up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This book has 688 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1869. Carver will let nothing get in the way of his marriage to Lorna, which he plans to force upon her once Sir Ensor dies and he comes into his inheritance. He falls hopelessly in love with Lorna, a girl he meets by accident, who turns out to be not only (apparently) the granddaughter of Sir Ensor Doone (lord of the Doones), but destined to marry (against her will) the impetuous, menacing, and now jealous heir of the Doone Valley, Carver Doone. Battling his desire for revenge, John also grows into a respectable farmer and takes good care of his mother and two sisters. John Ridd is the son of a respectable farmer who was murdered in cold blood by one of the notorious Doone clan, a once noble family, now outlaws, in the isolated Doone Valley.
